March 2014

Today is Mothering Sunday! I like the fact that you have a day dedicated to Mothers. There should be more days for them in fact! Think about all the things your Mother has done/does for you, aside from the small matter of birthing you. I have mentioned my Mum a few times on my blog. And what?! I will continue to mention her as an when I please! Mainly because she is my main influence when it comes to cooking. And talking loudly. You can thank her for that too! People come from far and wide to sample my Mum's cooking. That may or may not be a slight exaggeration, but I just wanted to make clear just how good her food is. It is bloody fantastic. There are very few things she makes that I don't like. If I don't like something, chances are, I am the fussy one, and her cooking is not to blame! Except that one time she made soup and put too much lemon in. Oh and those rock cakes she made that were really like rocks.

Isn't it funny, how even though Mothers Day cards and gifts are waved in our faces as soon as you step into any sort of shop, we all seem to be rushing to the card shop on Saturday trying to find a remotely suitable card. When you were younger, it was ok because you had to make cards at school. Cards which probably had some sort of flower, maybe even a heart on, with a message inside that read something like "To Mummy. You are the best Mummy in the whole world. Thank you for making my packed lunch for me. Lots of love (your name) xxxxxxxxxx". As your language skills develop you might throw in a few adjectives like "kind" and "caring". Generally, when it comes to card buying, I tend to go for funny cards. I can't stand those slushy sentimental ones. I like ones with puns. They are probably my favourite. It's always a little disappointing when the recipient doesn't find the card as funny as I do. Which reminds me, I better go get a card!!

This time last week I attended my first ever event as a "blogger". I use the term "blogger" loosely, as it still makes me chuckle to think I am a blogger. But anyway. I was invited to Underground Cookery School to attend a cooking class. I initially thought it was an event being run by the school it's self, to get a bit of publicity, but it wasn't! It was Curry's PC World (click to read more about the event on their blog). Hence the name of the event Curry's in the Kitchen. Well it was really #currysinthekitchen, but I must admit, hashtagging sentences is not something I enjoy! As this was my first event I was both nervous and excited! Nervous because I didn't know what to expect. I had in my mind that it would be some kind of masterclass and everyone else would be like super chefs, and I would be like the kid in the kitchen, just there to lick the spoon at the end. I was also nervous because I didn't know what the other bloggers would be like! Again, I thought they would be scary, experienced cooks, who would laugh at my incompetence. I couldn't have been more wrong, on both counts!
